Change the name and changed the fortune

Change the name and changed the fortune

Sir Ghulam Noor, MBE, the billionaire, Ex-president of London Chamber of commerce, a rare honour for an Asian origin, has had a long journey to success.

Ghulam Noor was born in a chawl (one room house) in Mohammed Ali Road, Mumbai. He lost his father when he was barely 8 years old. His father was running a small sweet shop known as “Kamaridun Ebrahim Jee Mithaiwala,” named after his grandfather. He had a loving mother who worked tirelessly to keep the wolf away from the door after the demise of her husband. However, the Young boy Noor too was extending his helping hand. The business was slow, not very remunerative and hence life was dull for the members of the family. But Noor made no bones about his desire to be rich. So it was little surprising when one day he decided to change the name of the shop from “Kamaridun Ebrahim Jee Mithaiwala” to “Royal Sweets.” The elders and other members of the family opposed the idea. But Noor did not listen to any of them. He refused to yield and changed the name of his shop. Within a couple of weeks, the whole scenario changed. It paved for the Diwali customers and all other in an unprecedented way. The business jumped by leaps and bounds. He not only redesigned the logo but also spend on advertisements. Money started pouring in and the persons who had opposed the idea of changing the name, congratulated him for his imagination and thought.

In 1964, Noor went to London and decided to settle there. There too his struggle began like any other immigrant. He wanted to start Royal sweets abroad and soon, with his efforts and imagination, started it with a partnership of 50 percent, with persons of his community.

Despite racial slur, Noor not only established himself in Royal sweets, he diverted his Business and by 1988 he launched “Noor products Ltd.,” an empire that now comprises high-tech aviation supply deals and supermarkets tie-ups to provide chilled and frozen Indian meals. His Gulab Jamuns and Dal Makhanees are sold at the best super markets. Money and honours have been chasing him since then.

You will admit that imagination and thought play a great role in changing the destiny of a man or woman. Imagination along with the will to take risk is the key to success in life.
