England defeat watched by 11.2m

England defeat watched by 11.2m

England's defeat to Croatia was watched by 11.2m viewers on BBC One, more than double the number who tuned into ITV1's I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!
Viewing figures for England's crucial match peaked at just over 13 million in the final 15 minutes of the game as the team failed to qualify for Euro 2008.

I'm A Celebrity was watched by 5.8m as it lost out to the football. It usually attracts over seven million viewers.

The defeat led to Steve McClaren's sacking as England head coach.

The European Championship qualifer will be the last competitive England home match to be seen on the BBC for some time.

From August 2008, ITV and Setanta Sports will show England home internationals and FA Cup games as part of a £425m four-year deal.

Despite the absence of any of the home nations, the BBC and ITV will jointly screen the 2008 European Championship, which take place in Austria and Switzerland next summer.
