West thanks fans for condolences


Rap star Kanye West has thanked fans for their support following the death of his mother over the weekend.
The US rapper, his publicist said, "would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of support and kind words."

Dr Donda West, 58, who managed the star's businesses and educational foundation, died in LA after complications following surgery.

Her family has not commented on the surgery, but a plastic surgeon has reportedly denied culpability.

Dr Jan Adams performed a tummy tuck and breast reduction on the 58-year-old, according to celebrity website TMZ.

But the Beverly Hills surgeon told the site her death could have been caused by other medical problems.

Dr West was taken to Centinela Freeman Regional Medical Center in Marina Del Ray after she stopped breathing at her home.

"We tried to resuscitate her but were unsuccessful," said a hospital spokeswoman.

Dr West raised her son alone after her husband left when Kanye was three.

In May she published Raising Kanye: Life Lessons from the Mother of a Hip-Hop Star, in which she paid homage to her 30-year-old son.

She also chaired the Kanye West Foundation, a non-profit organisation that aims to improve literacy and stop young people dropping out of school.

Instead of flowers, the West family has requested donations be made to the foundation in her name.
